Stroll & Pull: Symmes Woods

Join the ArMI at this newest site -- Symmes Woods!   The  Invasives ArMI and historical Friends of these woods join forces for a Garlic Mustard Pull Weedout. Learn to identify and remove Garlic Mustard. Discuss the history of the woods, including a past life as a Norway maple nursery before the tree was known to be invasive.

Location:  Symmes Woods 

When: Sat. Apr 20, 10am-12pm. (Rain date: Sun Apr 21 @1-3pm)

Meet: Meet at Nora A. Brown Park pkg. lot, mid-way up Symmes Rd.

Bring:  water, tools, if you have them WEAR: sturdy gloves - protective clothing & hat -  eye protection - tick repellent - sun block

Garlic mustard pulls fairly easily by hand with a wiggle to loosen, then pull up the root. If there's resistance other tools might help (see below).

Tools:  Hand trowel - hand pruners - rake - weeding knife | For woody invasives like bittersweet: loppers - bow or garden saw -shovel -  (weed wrench or equivalent may be used at specific events)

To find us: From Summer St (parallel to Mass Ave.), turn onto Symmes Rd., Turn right into the Nora A. Brown Park parking lot, halfway up the hill.
