We are grateful to Troop 711 scouts and parents for offering their volunteer energy to the Window on Mystic woodlands.
Older scouts will weed wrench out or lop down the burning bush (Euonymus alatus) that has invaded this little woods. Younger scouts will pull out a vine blanketing the floor of the woodlands called winter creeper (Euonymus fortune). Bare root native shrubs were planted this past spring - and some folks can help water these if the site is dry.
In the past, Eagle Scouts built the stairs leading up and down the loop trail -- a nice example of a well-constructed Eagle Scout project! Troop 711's efforts are continuing that scouting tradition.
The Arlington MA Invasives ArMI is preparing the site to eventually host demonstration plantings of the native plants already present in this woodland, with additions to increase biodiversity.
